Emergency Watch Officer
Employment Status: Part time/seasonal position
Position Summary: The Ravinia Festival Association (Ravinia) is
seeking an Emergency Watch Officer (EWO) within its newly developed Watch Desk and
Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The Emergency Watch Officer (EWO) is a part time/seasonal
position that reports to the General Manager of Operations of Ravinia and is responsible
for ensuring that Ravinia management, staff and regional partners maintain a high
state of operational readiness through monitoring, coordination, communication and
vigilance. Key responsibilities include monitoring all potential hazards, collecting
pertinent information regarding these hazards and disseminating this information
to Ravinia and its stakeholders.
In order to ensure the emergency preparedness of Ravinia, the (EWO) will staff the
Watch Desk before, during, and immediately following performances at Ravinia.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collect, assemble and disseminate information on potential hazards and on emergency
operations which require substantial material and personnel support
- Confirm the scope and nature of incidents and analyze information from multiple
sources
- Serve as primary interface and point of contact for Ravinia and external personnel
to provide critical information, updates and support during the monitoring, response
and recovery phases of the emergency response cycle
- Ensure that information about multi-agency responses or incidents is properly communicated
and personnel are alerted in a timely fashion
- Ensure that department personnel are informed of any critical situation updates
during response efforts
- Provide support to communication and coordination efforts in the field
- Produce deliverables to be used by response staff and partners including but not
limited to mapping products, situation reports, images, informational packages,
response reports, liaison updates and after-action reports
- Manage and analyze data related to response efforts
- Maintain communication equipment to make sure it is in a constant state of readiness
and perform regular operational tests
- Perform other duties as required
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment when faced with emergency situations
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, leadership and negotiation skills
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships and develop partnerships
- Ability to interpret federal and state emergency management requirements and regulations
- General experience in project and organizational management
- Strong desire to work in a fast-paced, professional public safety environment
- The ability to physically perform the duties and work described above
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and ability to
use other IT and communication applications and systems including GIS, radio systems,
etc.
Education and Experience:
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or equivalent experience
- Experience working within an emergency management or other public safety organization
is preferred
- Familiarity with Ravinia Festival operations is preferred
- Experience with National Incident Management System, Incident Command and operation
of interoperability and communication equipment is preferred
- An equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field will be
considered
- Completion of Federal Emergency Management Agency training courses (ICS 100, 200,
700, and 800B) within first month of hire

Retail Operations Sales Associate
Position Summary: Sales Associate is responsible for the daily
sales and customer service of two on-site retail operations.
Dates Needed: Mid-May through September 15, 2013
Responsibilities:
- Ring up sales using Counterpoint point-of-sale system and accept cash, check, gift
card or credit card payment
- Complete daily cash reports
- Reconcile cash drawers at end of evening
- Set customer service example for all staff
- Merchandise store and displays
- Provide feedback to Associate Director and Assistant Manager regarding inventory
levels
- Restock inventory for both locations via one central warehouse
- Clean both locations on a daily basis
- Additional responsibilities as needed
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Experience in retail environment preferred
- Demonstrated customer service ability
- Cash register and calculator experience
- Computer literate, with working knowledge of retail point of sale system
- Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 30 lbs
Working Conditions:
Nights and weekends mandatory
Compensation:
$8.25 per hour

Chair Rental Operations Sales Associate
Position Summary: Sales Associate is responsible for the daily
sales and customer service of one on-site chair rental operations.
Dates Needed: Mid-May through September 15, 2013
Responsibilities:
- Ring up sales using Counterpoint point-of-sale system and accept cash, check, gift
card or credit card payment
- Complete daily cash reports
- Reconcile cash drawers at end of evening
- Set customer service example for all staff
- Stock, clean and organize chairs and tables for evening rental
- Collect un-returned chairs and tables
- Merchandise and restock inventory for Chair Rental location via one central warehouse
- Clean storage tent and sales tent on a daily basis
- Additional responsibilities as needed
Education and Experience:
- High School or equivalent work experience
- Experience in retail environment preferred
- Demonstrated customer service ability
- Cash register and calculator experience
- Computer literate, with working knowledge of retail point of sale system
- Ability to lift chairs and tables weighing up to 30 lbs
- Ability to drive utility golf cart preferred
Working Conditions:
Nights and weekends mandatory
Evening hours as late as 11:30 p.m.
Compensation:
$8.25 per hour

Box Office
The Ravinia Festival Box Office positions require excellent customer service skills.
Applicants must be able to work in a fast paced environment with a high degree of
accuracy and attention to detail. Day, evening and weekend hours are required.
The 2013 Ravinia Festival season runs from June – September. Priority in hiring
is given to applicants who are available to work the entire season. Applicants must
be at least 16 years of age to be considered for any position at the Ravinia Festival.
Dates and Hours of Employment:

Positions require a minimum of 40 hours a week and will include day, evening and
weekend hours
General Responsibilities:
- Work with patrons handling ticket sales, ticket exchanges, ticket donations and
will call
- Listen to and answer customer questions and concerns while providing superior customer
service
- Handle cash and be responsible for daily reconciliation
- Applicant must be comfortable working with patrons both on the phone and in-person
- Must be able to retain and relay a large amount of detailed information about performances,
events, and Ravinia Festival park information
- Research and resolve straightforward customer problems
- Assist patrons with the navigation of the website and the online ticket purchasing
process
- Filing, copying and other basic office duties
- Provide detailed information about Highland Park and surrounding areas; including
driving directions, parking and public transportation

Requirements:
- Excellent customer service skills
- Knowledge of performing arts (with knowledge in classical musical a plus)
- Superior communication, listening and problem solving skills. Must practice attentive
and active listening
- Customer focused
- Able to maintain composure and positive attitude during difficult times
- An ability to handle several forms of payment types such as cash, check and credit
card with a high degree of accuracy
- Must possess basic math skills including but not limited to addition, subtraction,
division, and simple percentages
- Advanced knowledge of email, social media sites and the internet
- Knowledge of Microsoft Access, Word and Excel with ability to easily and quickly
learn new programs
- Must have excellent typing, proofreading and data entry skills. Ideal candidates
will be able to type at least 40 wpm

Finance Assistant
Department: Finance
Reports to: Associate Director of Finance
Position Summary: Ravinia’s Finance Department has a part –time, seasonal position available to assist the Accounts Payable and Benefits Manager positions with various accounting and finance-related work related to Ravinia’s summer season.
Dates and Hours of Employment: May through September, 20-25 hours per week with flexible schedule.
Duties to Include:
- Review and enter invoices into accounts payable
- Open and distribute mail
- Order supplies, replenish stock when needed in supply room and copy paper
- Run reports and checks for review and signature
- Filing of accounts payable and timesheets
- Organize and review timesheets for payroll process
- Prepare bank deposits
- Entering journal entries
- Other special projects as necessary
Education and Experience: Experience in an accounting, finance, budgeting, payroll, or office management required. A degree in Accounting, Finance or Business or equivalent experience preferred.
