Since 1962 the Women’s Board has promoted Ravinia through a wide range of initiatives, from enhancing audiences' enjoyment of the festival experience to furthering appreciation of music and the arts to educating young performers, gifted or simply enthusiastic. This year the Women’s Board is proud to present pianist Lang Lang, who made his surprise debut at Ravinia in 1999, as the performer for the gala benefit evening, which will be held on Saturday, July 27. The Keene H. Addington II memorial concert fund was established in 1995 in memory of Keene Addington, a former board member and dedicated supporter of The Ravinia Festival. A lifelong resident of the Chicago area and an energetic leader in both business and civic duties, Keene was passionate about Ravinia and its role in bringing world-class music to the Chicago area. Prior to his death, Keene was Campaign Chairman and Trustee for Designs for the Future: Magnifying Ravinia’s Magic, a major funding initiative in which he was a driving force behind its inception and success. As in all his endeavors, Keene Addington approached his participation in the Ravinia Festival with energy and determination. In Memory of Robert S. Fremont

Ravinia has been a very important part of our summer experience. We are so pleased to sponsor the June 14 Benny Goodman Tribute in loving memory of Robert S. Fremont. At the age of fifteen, Bob began playing the clarinet professionally, and did so in a number of bands in the New York area. He went on to play the clarinet in Glenn Miller’s Air Force Band during World War II. Therefore, the Benny Goodman Tribute is a perfect concert to memorialize Bob and his lifelong love of music.

Maxine's earliest memories at Ravinia were shared with her mother as they attended chamber music performances every Monday evening at the old Casino Building before it was recreated as the Harza Building. Now Maxine and Tom share their love of music on the many warm summer nights at Ravinia Festival. They look forward to enjoying works by Bernstein, Debussy, Chausson, Saint-Saëns, Mendelssohn and Rossini performed by the incomparable Chicago Symphony Orchestra on July 21.

Our concert is given in memory of our daughter, Keren-Or Bernbaum, appropriately given the Hebrew name meaning “ray of light.” She illuminated the lives of all who knew her. Keren was an accomplished mezzo soprano, a founding member of Opera Manhattan, producing and performing in the American premieres of Renaldo Hahn’s “Le Marchand de Vinnise;” Faure’s “Pénélope;” Dukas’s “Ariane et Barbe-bleue;” Refice’s “Cecilia” and Handel’s “Amadigio,” in which she performed the title role. She was blessed with a wide range of talents: pianist, poet, potter and student of literature. Her life of forty five years was filled with music, art and beauty, a remarkable sense of humor and generosity of spirit.

Ravinia has been a part of the Gray family tradition for more than 60 years. Mae and Joe Gray started this tradition, often bringing family and friends to share their love for Ravinia. I first came to Ravinia as a boy in the ’40s, and loved it from the start. Ravinia is an undisputed cultural gem, with something for everyone. Over the years, Joyce and I brought that same love of Ravinia to our children, and now to our grandchildren. Among our favorite summer memories are those of coming to Ravinia on Sunday nights to picnic and enjoy music with our children and grandchildren. We are so fortunate to have this treasure in our backyard, and the Gray family is proud to support its programming.
