About The Artist

Led by world-renowned violinist and longtime Piano and Strings Program Director Miriam Fried, the Musicians from Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute (RSMI) embark on its annual tour from its home stage. As part of RSMI’s 25th anniversary celebration, Aria Fantasy for piano quartet was commissioned by Ravinia from David Ludwig, who worked directly with the piano and strings musicians. At the July 8 premiere he remarked, “They are truly brilliant players and are as thoughtful in their approach to my music as they are works by the great masters.” The ensemble will bookend the piece with a piano trio by Haydn and a string quartet by Schubert to showcase that timeless talent. The Palm Beach Daily News concluded from last season’s tour that “chamber music has a bright future with these young stars” on the basis of the “strong, fast finger-work [that was] in abundance.”
