Drawing inspiration from the Stan Kenton Orchestra, Boston Brass will perform its unique take on holiday fare for its Ravinia debut. The quintet’s holiday programs—as well as its albums Christmas Bells are Swingin’ and The Stan Kenton Christmas Carols—incorporate charts popularized by that ensemble as well as Boston Brass’s own arrangements of wintertime classics in the jazz, ragtime, Latin, Motown and pop idioms. The Indianapolis Performing Arts Examiner welcomed the group’s “relief from the usual staid holiday fare,” while Charleston Today noted, “Whether solo, in combos or all at once, the effect was dazzling . . . the musicians left nothing more to be desired.” The group has held residencies at such schools as the Peabody Conservatory, University of North Texas and London’s Royal Academy of Music, and has also been featured on CBS’s The Early Show, NPR’s Performance Today and The Great American Brass Band Festival.
