Chicago Jazz Orchestra trumpeter Marquis Hill will bring together his own ensemble for a concert that doubles as an album-release event. Once a member of RSMI’s Program for Jazz and Ravinia’s Jazz Scholars, he has since established himself among the vanguard of Chicago’s new jazz generation, both as a performer and a composer. Hill’s albums to date heavily feature his own charts, which the Chicago Tribune has recognized for their “melodic beauty.” It also praised his “considerable control, poise and . . . phrase-making well beyond his youth,” noting the “tonal glow of his playing matched the poetry of his lines . . . hinting at greater things to come.” He has toured the U.S. and abroad with such ensembles as Sirens of Sound, The Delisfort Project, Chicago 12 and Bebop Brass, and he has performed alongside Bobby Broom, Willie Pickens, Dee Alexander, Roy Hargrove, Clark Terry and many others.
