Bridges

About Bridges

The Bridges Composition Competition invites emerging composers from around the world to bring fresh, creative perspectives to the intersection of jazz and classical music. Composers craft new works for string quartet and jazz combo, exploring the rich connections between these genres. Each year, up to three winners are awarded the David Baker Prize, which includes a $2,500 prize, a week of mentorship with our Jazz Program directors to refine the winning works, and a premiere performance of their pieces at Ravinia.

Bridges Faculty

Our esteemed Bridges faculty comprises world-renowned jazz and classical musicians dedicated to mentoring the next generation of composers. With extensive experience as performers, educators, and innovators, they provide invaluable insights, personalized guidance, and support to help participants refine their craft and bring their creative visions to life.
