Additional Information
Location
- Ravinia is 25 miles north of downtown Chicago in suburban Highland Park, at the center of Chicago’s North Shore.
Programming
- Opened in 1904, Ravinia presents the longest-running and the most artistically diverse outdoor music festival in North America, featuring over 100 concerts annually between June and September that highlight music as wide-ranging as the audiences.
- Ravinia has vibrant histories with classical and jazz music and celebrates the multitudes of genres that are enjoyed globally today, including rock, R&B and soul, pop, country and Americana, Latin music, hip-hop and rap, blues, folk and bluegrass, turntablism, music theater and cabaret, world music, and dance performances.
- Ravinia also presents a summer Kids Concert series that extends the festival’s main-stage programming across a mix of genres and artists, all in a kid-friendly environment.
Audience/Attendance
- Each summer, nearly 400,000 guests attend performances at Ravinia, with 70% of ticket buyers between 35 and 64 years of age with a median household income of $180,000.
- About 75% of Ravinia guests come from within a 25-mile radius, but the festival is also an international destination for live music, with about 1 in 11 guests coming from outside Illinois, including all 48 contiguous states, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and many more regions.
- While a majority (3 in 4) of Ravinia guests attend a single concert per summer on average, Ravinia donors take in an average of 4 to 5 performances each season; both cohorts of ticket-buyers average 3 people per group in attendance.
- At a sold-out performance on the Pavilion stage, Ravinia is welcoming up to 13,000 people into the park, and guests can spend between 2½ and 3 hours in the park before the performance begins.
Quality
- The summer home of the esteemed Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 1936, Ravinia also regularly books the world’s finest conductors, soloists, and music ensembles.
- State-of-the-art sound systems provide guests—both in reserved seats and spread across the park on the Lawn with the highest quality acoustics.
Ambiance
- Ravinia is nestled in 36 acres of manicured woods and open meadow that can accommodate up to 10,000 guests in general admission and reserved spaces on the Lawn.
- Around the park are three performance spaces with reserved seating: the magnificent open-air Pavilion, which seats 3,350, and two intimate indoor venues, the Martin Theatre and Bennett Gordon Hall, which seat 850 and 450, respectively.
- Guests can also enjoy performances at the Carousel Stage on the general-admission North Lawn, which presents the featured artist on some dates and additional guest artists before Pavilion concerts on others.
Education and Community Engagement
- Ravinia’s acclaimed Reach Teach Play music education and community engagement programs serve over 50,000 people in under-resourced areas of Cook and Lake Counties each year, including more than 20,000 students, their families, and their neighborhoods.
- Ravinia works closely with Chicago Public Schools, the Chicago Park District, and many other nonprofits throughout the region to open doors for the positive impact of music to be experienced by all.
